Leading football agent Gary Mellor has explained why he believes Kevin Thelwell was the perfect fit to become Everton’s director of football.
Thelwell, who was named as the club’s new football chief last month, made the move to Merseyside from New York Red Bulls, where he had been in place since February 2020.
Before working in America, the 48-year-old was previously sporting director at Wolves, where he had also operated as head of football development and recruitment.
Everton's new director of football comes into the role replacing Marcel Brands, who left the club last year having been on Merseyside for just over three years.
And Mellor, who is managing director of Beswicks Sports agency, has outlined how Everton’s new football chief likes to operate.

Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Shakhtar Donetsk star Pedrinho.
That's according to Gazeta Esportiva, who are reporting that the Blues and Wolves are eyeing a move for the Brazil midfielder.
The 23-year-old is currently in his native Brazil with the Ukrainian Premier League currently suspended due to the Russian invasion.
Pedrinho has been with Shakhtar since last summer, when he transferred for around £15 million from Benfica, and, according to the report, could make a decision on his future on Friday.
Louis Saha admits he has “no idea” why his former club Everton are struggling so much given the talent in their squad.
Everton remain just a point clear of the relegation zone following a 5-0 thrashing at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday and have won just one two of their last 19 Premier League fixtures.
The starting line-up in north London included three full England internationals ( Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin ), Brazil international pair Allan and Richarlison, Ireland captain Seamus Coleman, and Netherlands international Donny van de Beek, but the Blues still produced a gutless and shambolic display.
Despite having an expensively-assembled squad, many of Everton’s current players have now underachieved under a succession of managers with Frank Lampard the latest recruit in the dugout attempting to ensure they don’t remain less than a sum of their parts.

Guus Til could soon be made a free agent amid reported interest from Everton, it has been claimed.
The Blues have been linked with the Spartak Moscow forward in recent months, with the player currently on loan at Feyenoord.
According to De Telegraaf, the current conflict in Ukraine involving Russia means that Til does not want to return to Spartak.
Til is due to return to Moscow in the summer at the end of his loan stint, but it has been claimed that he could have his contract terminated instead.
Reporter Marcel Van der Kraan says that Feyenoord will look to have TIl made a free agent in June.
He said:
“It is known that they (Til and team-mate Jorrit Hendrix) do not want to go back to Russia. Feyenoord will see if they can be declared free-agents in June.”
Everton remain comfortable that they are not facing a Premier League points deduction over their finances.
An article published by the Daily Mail claimed that Everton risked a points deduction and are preparing to negotiate with the Premier League over their financial accounts amid fears they could become the first club to breach the top-flight's profit and sustainability rules.
However, the ECHO understands the Blues are not concerned about the prospect of a points deduction and have been dealing closely with the Premier League over all their transfer activity for several years now.

Since Everton confirmed their intentions to build a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, understandable comparisons have been made with Tottenham Hotspur.
The north London club completed their new ground in 2019, which is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose arena in the spot where White Hart Lane used to be.
The Blues, meanwhile, are progressing nicely on a 52,888-seater stadium of their own on Liverpool's famous waterfront, which is set to be a huge boost not just for the club but for the city as a whole.
Recent news regarding Everton's agreements with USM, however, has raised a few questions, not least regarding the new ground's naming rights.
Last week the Blues announced they had suspended their commercial agreements with USM, Megafon and Yota due to Alisher Usmanov's ties with Vladimir Putin following Russia's ongoing military invasion of Ukraine.
That could have an impact on Bramley-Moore Dock's naming rights in the future.

Manchester United are reportedly considering signing Richarlison this summer as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
That's according to Caught Offside, who are reporting that United have held talks with Richarlison’s representatives over a possible move at the end of the season.
The report states that, in order to secure a move, the Brazilian would want a pay rise and Man United would need to pay Everton between £60m-£70mm.
Richarlison has scored five goals in 20 appearances for Everton this season in all competitions, with four of those coming in the Premier League.
