Roberto Firmino reminded Liverpool supporters just how massively well-rounded he is a a goalscorer this week.
Liverpool put one foot in the quarter-final of the Champions League by winning 2-0 away to Inter Milan.
Firmino, a £29 million signing under Brendan Rodgers in 2015 [BBC Sport], opened the scoring on 75 minutes with a wonderful glancing header.
The Brazil international is by no means what you would consider to be a big footballer and certainly nowhere near being the tallest at Anfield.
However, the former Hoffenheim forward still glanced a sublime header from a corner.
And here’s what Thiago Alcantara said about his Liverpool teammate.
He told the club’s official website: “Fortunately we had this fabulous header from Bobby and after that we really controlled the game and we won it more, got the second one. We are really happy with the result..”
There’s a lot of uncertainty at Liverpool these days if you’re Firmino.
Diogo Jota’s form means he is probably first-choice central forward under Jurgen Klopp.
And Luis Diaz’s £49 million transfer to Liverpool from Porto in January indicates that the Portugal international will almost exclusively be operating through the middle.
Jota has played in that Sadio Mane role relatively often throughout his 18-month spell on Merseyside.
However, Diaz’s arrival illustrates that the German manager will be deploying him solely through the middle these days and that’s a negative for Firmino, who’ll play less.
Indeed, Firmino has a lot of pressure to contend with these days, but what a magnificent way in which to respond to it on Wednesday in Italy.
